“Bring”
The sixth period bell had rung and sounded a relief for the students at Tucker High School. All at once, the hallways became crowded with people going out to their cars and younger students waiting for buses. Alone, Madison sat in the school library, studying for her exams the next day while other people that she went to school with were thinking about going to the mall and hanging out with friends. Madison had never really been into that kind of stuff. Straight A’s since the third grade, Maddie, now a senior in high school, had been accepted to three colleges with full scholarships but she had never had the social life that she had always wanted.
“There you are!” a blonde girl yelled from the other side of the media center. Lexi, Maddie’s only friend, was the exactly opposite of her. Always a social butterfly, she had a new boyfriend every week and was always trying to hook Maddie up with her guy friends. She was one of the most popular girls at school and to top it off she was pretty. Her blonde hair fell just below he shoulders was never anything but pin straight. Her body was perfect in every way and every girl at school either envied her or hated her. There was no in between when it came to Lexi.
“Guess what I heard!” Lexi said with great excitement. All Maddie could think of was Lexi trying to get her to go out with another guy that she didn’t like. “What is it this time?” she asked. “Did you find me another guy that you want me to go out with?”
“You are almost right. I heard that that guy in your fourth period class History class that you have been checking out is totally into you.” Maddie made sure that no one was around other than Lexi and jumped out of her. “Are you yanking my chair or are you serious?” Maddie asked knowing that she had been eyeing this guy for a long time and was waiting for him to make the move. She just hoped that he would ask her out. A million ideas were bouncing around in her head about how he was going to ask her out and what were first date would be like and…what was she going to wear?!?!
“I heard that he might ask you out tomorrow but don’t get your hope up because I heard it from the gossipers who hang out in the bathroom all day and hide in the stalls in order to hear what is going on in this school.” Lexi said trying not to get Maddie’s hopes up to much remembering the time when she got all excited and things didn’t turn out the way that they were suppose to and made her world fall apart. “We better get going if we are going to get home in time for supper.” They had to make sure that they would still have time after dinner to pick out a cute outfit for Maddie’s big day.
In the car ride home, the two girls sat in the car together listening to the radio. Maddie was thinking about how great tomorrow was going to be while Lexi was thinking about her boyfriend and making out with him. If you had met these two girls when they weren’t together than you never would have thought that they were friends because they were just so different but in a way, one completed the other one and they both made each other happy in a way that only a best friend can make you happy.
